Can you Cut a Female Maltipoos Pee Hair?

It’s a simple fact of every animal’s life. They pee. They poop. They sit on the grass. Then, they sit on your lap, your sofas, and beds. Therefore, you should keep our Maltipoo’s backside and belly clean. You should trim their hair, even from the private parts, from time to time.

Sanitary trims are also called ‘’potty cuts’’ and are necessary to be trimmed from the dog’s private parts. It protects the hair from getting tangled and trapping urine, dirt, bacteria, odor, and feces. If left unchecked, these bacteria can spread into the environment and cause diseases and irritation to your Maltipoo as well.

Can you cut a female dog’s pee hair?

Yes, you can cut your female dog’s pee hair.

The pee hair of the female Maltipoo is located in a very sensitive and delicate area; therefore, you have to be very careful while cutting the hair. If you’re cutting the dog’s pee hair for the first time, it is advised to make proper training beforehand so you can understand the appropriate way when performing the trim.

Trimming the hair in private areas is not a difficult task, and you can perform it yourself. However, you need to be comfortable and relaxed. If your dog is anxious, you will face difficulty in performing the task. Therefore, make sure that you and your dog are 100% relaxed and comfortable, so the trimming process is easy to perform.

A better option is to ask a friend or family member to help you and give treats to the dog during the trimming process.

How to cut the dog’s pee hair?

Dogs with both fur and hair need a sanitary trim. Dogs having a short cut might never require a sanitary trim. However, dogs with a long coat and continually growing hair will need a regular trim.

Getting started:

Before you start trimming your dog’s private area, the dog must be thoroughly cleaned and dried. As dogs need regular cleaning, it is better to make a separate grooming station in your house. If you don’t have a grooming station, the floor or table-top will also work. A non-slip surface should be preferred, and it keeps the dog comfortable.

Although dogs clean their private parts by themselves, it is essential that you clean the parts with shampoos often so that the area is clean from dust and bacteria.

Two methods are used for the sanitary trim.

·        The standing up method:

This is a very effective method used by many groomers. For this, you will need:

·         A pair of scissors

·         A clipper

You can use a harness to keep your dog fixed at its place. Then, lift its tail and, by using clippers, trim the underside of the tail. Then, keep on trimming towards the legs.

Make sure that you are slowly moving the clippers, so the hair doesn’t pull. Then, it’s time to trim them from back of the belly.

Place the clippers under the dog and pull them towards you, clipping the long fur around from the belly to the backside. Also, make sure that you don’t put the clipper directly on the skin.

For trimming the hair on the potty area, lift the dog’s hind leg and trim the fur from underneath using the clipper. Lifting the leg will help to tighten the skin. Then, pull the trimmer towards you and cut the fur from the center out.

Repeat the same process on the other hind leg.

·        The end to end method:

This is the most effective and easy method of cutting sanitary hair. You will need:

·         Scissors

·         Comb

·         Clipper

·         Slicker brush

Once the dog’s body and face are groomed, brush them before performing the cut. Be careful about the potty area as there might be entangles, which can pull on sensitive skin.

Proceed by cutting the dog’s hair from the backside by pointing the scissors downward. First, cut out any long tangles. You can cut the sanitary hair by scissors alone or use a clipper after cutting the tangles and clumps.

Clip the hair around the backside, starting at the top. You can also trim the hair down towards the leg. Again, avoid touching the clippers to the skin.

For cutting the hair from the belly, lie it down on his belly and rub it to make it feel comfortable. Trim the hair around the potty area with the clippers. Keeping the clipper off the skin, move down and away from the potty area.

How to be careful?

·         The dog’s sanitary and potty areas have sensitive skin. When cutting the hair, make sure to be slow and gentle.

·         When using clippers, never put them directly on the skin. Maintain a little distance to avoid any cuts.

·         When using scissors, never point them directly on the dog’s skin. Keep them parallel to the hair to avoid poking.

·         Small knots can be best removed with clippers. If they are up against the skin, prefer using scissors.
