Do Maltipoos have hair or fur?

Maltipoos are one of the most loved dogs all over the world. We all love to have pets in the house and when it comes to dogs, why not choose Maltipoos? They are smart and easy to train, and due to their affectionate and fun-loving nature, they are loved by people all over the world. Having a Maltipoo in your house will surely make the environment friendly as they are loved not only by children but also by adults.

Most dogs have hair or fur and that’s the most difficult part of having a dog at home. Animals with fur are not suitable for people who suffer from allergies. Therefore, they usually prefer dogs with hair, as the hair is easier to clean and brush than fur. Fur keeps shedding off and you have to keep collecting it wherever the dog goes. Hair also needs to be collected, but it does not create much for dog owners.

But the main point here is, that neither fur nor hair is the cause of severe allergies. Then why do people get allergies from dogs? It is because the allergens and bacteria accumulate in the hair and fur and act as a carrier of the allergies. Maltipoos have hair consisting of a single layer, which makes it more convenient to keep as a pet. Hair sheds less than fur, so people sensitive to allergies usually prefer keeping a Maltipoo at home.

Do the Poodle and Maltese have fur or hair?

Since Maltipoos are a cross of Poodle and Maltese, they are usually not considered a dog breed. Both Poodle and Maltese have hair on their skin instead of fur, and that’s the reason that Maltipoos genetically have hair as well. But having hair instead of fur does not mean that they won’t cause allergies, however, they save their owners from severe allergic reactions. Maltipoos do have dander that can cause mild allergies, but not as severe as a dog with fur. Unlike fur, the hair will not shed or fall off. However, the skin of the Maltipoo is renewed continuously and dry skin left on the hair is called dander.

The hair of a Maltipoo is also single-layered, making them different from all other dogs. Many dogs have multiple layers of skin and hair that make them the source of causing allergies. But in this respect, the Maltipoos are safe to keep and are fun to play with.

What is the difference between fur and hair?

Most dogs have fur on their skin, but as the Maltipoos are a cross-breed, they have hair. That may be the main reason why they are not generally regarded as dogs. The primary difference between the fur and hair is that fur continues to grow longer from time to time. Even after removing the fur, the new fur will regenerate as the coat of the dog is in a continuous state of renewal. On the other hand, hair is usually thinner than fur and does not shed continuously. However, as the coat is renewed, the dead skin cells are accumulated in the fur, called dander.

If your dog has fur, he will continuously shed it wherever he goes, and you’ll have to keep collecting it. With hair, there is no such problem. Just like human hair, the hair of Maltipoos does not keep shedding and makes keeping them more convenient. Also, as fur is denser, it falls more quickly and accumulates allergens in a great number. On the other hand, hair is thin, and won’t let dander or bacteria stay inside.

Hair needs to be cut after attaining a certain length as it will then get curled and accumulate more dander, increasing the cause of allergies. Therefore, it is better to get a Maltipoo with thin and straight hair to avoid allergies.

Does having hair/fur mean it needs brushing? Prone to matting?

Whether your dog has fur or hair, it is always a better idea to brush them. As Maltipoos have hair, you should brush their hair at least twice a week. If not, the hair will get tangled and will cause the hair to matte. By brushing your Maltipoo’s hair continuously, you can make them prone to matting.

As Maltipoos dead skin cells accumulate in the hair, brushing will help shed off the extra skin cells and eliminate any chances of allergies. Combing frequently will also avoid hair from curling or create knots in the hair. Brushing will not only keep your Maltipoo clean, but it will also act as a stress-reliever.

Conclusion:

Keeping a Maltipoo in your house is fun as they do not require much care and are smart. As they have hair, they are less likely to cause it. Proper brushing and cleaning your Maltipoo after a few days is good to keep them clean and alleviate allergies.
